Nothin But Chicken Is Poultry Kitchen On Wheels
Charleston Food Truck Serves Up Low Country Favorite ‘Chicken’
By: Jeff Walker, Restaurant Review
Opening a business in the ‘year of COVID’ is tough. Opening a food and drink business during the year of COVID is insane. However that’s precisely what Charles Calton and Terrence Taylor did. The duo, both foodies decided it was time for something new roaming the streets of greater Charleston, so that’s why they opted to serve up one of the low-country’s favorite poultry dishes.
Originally set to make its debut back in the spring, the pandemic pushed their roll out of ‘Nothin But Chicken’ to late summer. You can guess by the title, aside from a stray Caesar Salad, the food truck serves up nothing but chicken. More than two dozen flavors of wings, alongside chicken sandwiches, wraps, sliders, and a chicken quesadilla. While most entrees conjure up lunch, the Chicken & Waffles oozing in syrup and butter is the lone brunch item.
The plethora of chicken wings are no doubt the hardest selection on the menu. You can choose from the traditional Lemon Pepper, Teriyaki, Parmesan Garlic, Ranch, Carolina Gold, and Buffalo, to NBC’s signature flavors, ie Orange Pepper, Mango Habanero, Garlic Butter, and Sriracha. Mix and match your eight favorites with fries, onion rings, or chips and drink for an even $9. Not bad.
Perhaps you have a huge appetite or just plan to split your meal. 20 wings with sides will set you back all of $18. Try a sandwich or wrap blanketed in romaine lettuce, pickles, mayo or your favorite wing flavor for $9. Same price for the quesadilla, or the waffle sandwich. NBC serves up daily specials for $11, offering a kids menu for 50 percent less (half the portion at half the price).
Nothin But Chicken isn’t trying to re-invent the wheel, although they do take their wheeled mobile kitchen on the road. You can find them on street corners, medical complexes, and business parks on various days of the week. The answer to the pecking question is yes, NBC does cater and take call ahead orders. From a bright green painted former school bus Charles and Terrence proclaim ‘if its chicken in it, we makin’ it!’
When they aren’t roaming the low country you can find them on a regular basis at 2007 North Main (17A) in Summerville. If you want to know more or where Nothin But Chicken is roosting any given day, than visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Nothinbutchickenllc/
