Local Nonprofit In Need of Community Members to Sponsor Wishlists at Local Title 1 Schools

Local nonprofit Charleston Hope invites the community to sign up to adopt a teacher at one of their partnered Title 1 schools this holiday season. In an effort to meet teachers’ direct needs and to continue their Adopt a Classroom initiative, Charleston Hope asked every teacher at Sanders-Clyde Elementary and Mitchell Elementary to create a wishlist with items for their classroom up to $200.

“When I found out that Charleston Hope is sponsoring teachers wish list, it lit up my heart,” Mr. Or, a second-grade teacher from Mitchell Elementary said. “To know that teachers are being thought of during this unknown season of teaching in a pandemic truly makes me feel grateful to know there are people in the community that want to support the teachers in our underserved schools.”

The organization typically provides a brand-new holiday toy to every student in five local Title 1 schools, but due to COVID-19, the number of schools they could be in were limited.

“We knew due to the pandemic that our holiday initiative was going to have to shift this year,” Charleston Hope’s executive director Emily Kerr said. “When we discovered we were only going to be able to do two schools instead of five, we wanted to go above and beyond for the students, teachers and families that have worked so hard this year to do the impossible – teach and learn in a pandemic.”

Community Members can go to www.charlestonhope.com and sign-up to become a Classroom Wishlist Sponsor. Sponsors will receive a list of items that can be purchased on Amazon or elsewhere. All items are due to the organization  on December 6, 2020 at Awaken Church. Gifts will then be delivered by the Charleston Hope staff on December 16th and 17th.

Community members can also make a financial donation on the website to help the organization reach their goal of $25,000 to continue programs and support this spring.
