Press Release

In a year filled with trials and tribulations, the South Carolina Aquarium has strived to maintain its educational and entertaining experiences while also providing a clean and safe environment for guests to enjoy. This holiday season will be no different as the Aquarium invites everyone to Come Sea the Magic!

Beginning December 1st and ending December 24th, the Aquarium halls will come alive with festive sights, signaling the arrival of the most cheerful time of year. For anyone seeking to create lasting holiday memories in a safe, COVID-conscious setting, look no further. From visits with Santa and fun photo-ops to festive animal enrichment and more, the South Carolina Aquarium is the perfect place to experience the magic of the season!

The Aquarium is delighted to once again offer children – naughty and nice – the opportunity to meet with Santa Claus to share their wishes! Santa is on a tight schedule, but the Aquarium is fortunate to host him every Sunday-Tuesday, 9 am – 2 pm, during the month of December until the Christmas holiday. A contact-free queuing system will allow guests to explore the Aquarium while waiting to be notified of their turn, via mobile device, to meet with Santa.

This year will be especially unique as Santa will arrive in his one-fish open sleigh to meet with kids, ensuring proper social distancing for a very merry and safe experience. Santa will be donning his face mask and requests that all children, from 3 to 92, do the same. While this year’s photos may look a little different from years past, they will surely make the memories even more precious when reflected on in the holidays to come.

Speaking of photos, the Aquarium’s elves have been tirelessly tinkering in their workshop to create fun, holiday-themed photo opportunities to add to the experience this year. Strike a pose in front of Santa’s workshop before visiting the life-size gingerbread house full of interactive activities. Didn’t get a chance to speak to Santa? Don’t worry, everyone will have the opportunity to drop their letters off in a mailbox where shipping will be expedited to the North Pole.
