CJCC to Virtually Host Second Community Justice Forum

The Charleston County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, or CJCC, invites the community to the second Community Justice Forum, to be held virtually January 12th from 5:30 – 6:30 pm. The forum, entitled “COVID and Charleston’s Local Criminal Justice System” will feature local subject matter experts including:

• Captain Jason Bruder, CJCC Chairman, City of Charleston Police Department
• LaTasha Foggie, Director of Nursing, Wellpath
• Kristin Graziano, Charleston County Sheriff
• Major Dorothy Harris, Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center
• Scarlett Wilson, 9th Circuit Solicitor

Interested community members may register for the forum here.  The event is free and open to the public.

Additionally, the CJCC is excited to announce community representatives for the 2021-2023 term following an open call for applications. Community voice and priorities have been at the forefront of the work of the CJCC since the organization’s inception in 2015. These representatives will join five other already serving for the 2020-2022 term. The newly selected community representatives are:

• Dr. C Michael Bowman, President of Board of Directors, Father to Father, Inc.
• Adrian Cain, Senior Vice President Leadership Charleston Metro Chamber
• Marcus Tyler McDonald, Director, Charleston Black Lives Matter
• Keith Smalls, Founder/ Executive Director, My Community’s Keeper Mentor Group
• Adrian C. Swinton, Project Planner for MUSC Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategic Plan
• Reverend David Truluck, Executive Director, SHIELD Ministries
• Lauren Williams, attorney, Williams & Walsh, LLC

Community representatives voice the diverse needs and concerns of Charleston County residents within the CJCC. Representatives attend and participate in CJCC monthly meetings, review CJCC progress, gather and share community input, and provide voice and feedback from the community in the CJCC decision-making process. Community representatives are selected annually through an open call for applications.

Both are vital in the work of the CJCC as we work to improve the community safety and well-being within Charleston County,” stated CJCC Chairman Jason Bruder, Captain, Charleston Police Department.
