Single-Dose Vaccines Available at Rural COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics

Charleston County and Fetter Health Care will offer the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine as part of their COVID-19 Rural Vaccination Program.

Here’s a look at the upcoming schedule:

It is important that citizens do not arrive before 12:30 pm. The libraries will be closed to the public on the day of the vaccine clinics. The book drops will also be closed. Vaccines are available to citizens in Phase 1a and Phase 1b, which includes citizens 55 and older, those at increased risk for severe COVID-19 disease and frontline workers with increased occupational risk. The clinics are first come, first serve and do not require an appointment.

Over the last few weeks, a little more than 1400 citizens living in Charleston County’s rural communities have been vaccinated. Clinics have been held in Hollywood, James Island and most recently on Wadmalaw Island. The purpose of this partnership with Fetter Health Care and Charleston County Library is to provide rural communities convenient access to the COVID-19 vaccines.

Charleston County Council Vice Chairwoman Anna Johnson of district 8, which includes rural areas on James Island, Johns Island, Wadmalaw Island and Edisto Island, is thrilled with the success of the rural vaccine clinics. “It can be very difficult for the people I represent to access the medical facilities within the County, which is why it is so important to bring this vaccine to them,” said Johnson.

Charleston County Council Chairman Teddie Pryor stated, “I am grateful for our partnership with Fetter Health Care and look forward to continuing this partnership in an effort to make the COVID-19 vaccine available to our most vulnerable citizens.”

Charleston County plans to continue working with Fetter Health Care on future rural clinics as the COVID-19 vaccine becomes available.
