Hawkins Pace Cougars to Blowout Win Over Dukes

Trey Pooser took a no-hitter into the seventh, Harrison Hawkins launched a fourth-inning grand slam and five Cougars drove in at least one run as College of Charleston blew out James Madison, 15-3, on Saturday afternoon at Patriots Point to clinch a series win in Colonial Athletic Association play.

The Cougars broke open a 1-0 game with seven runs in the fourth highlighted by Hawkins’ second grand slam of the season. Charleston added three in the sixth, three in the seventh and one in the eighth to set a new season-high with 15 runs while Pooser retired the first 17 batters he faced and took a no-hitter into the seventh. Hawkins drove in five runs as Donald Hansis went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCE

Pooser tossed a gem in his fifth start of the season, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out three over seven and one-third innings. The freshman right-hander took a perfect game into the sixth and did not surrender a hit until a leadoff homer by Fox Semones in the seventh.

NEXT UP

The Cougars will go for the sweep in the series finale tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Patriots Point.
