SeamonWhiteside Completes Site Design and Landscape Architecture for Grand Opening of New Wild Dunes Sweetgrass Inn Resor

SeamonWhiteside, a full-service land design firm with offices throughout the Carolinas, has completed the site design and landscape architecture for the Grand Opening of Wild Dunes’ newest resort, the Sweetgrass Inn, located at 5757 Palm Blvd. on the Isle of Palms.

SeamonWhiteside creatively navigated the location’s site plan to include extensive water, sewer and pump station design. The firm also prioritized conservation in the landscape architecture plan, which included relocating existing live oaks and incorporating the resort pool into the amenity design with beach access paths.

“We understood how important it was to the site design to save and relocate six large Grand Live Oaks before any vertical construction,“ said Angelike Angelopoulos, SeamonWhiteside Land Planner. “This effort took months of planning and two weeks of execution to ensure these Grand Oaks were safely relocated to the main entrance of the Sweetgrass Inn.”

The firm’s efforts resulted in plantings at the front of the site full of native grasses, shrubs and ferns in keeping with local aesthetics. The pool plantings introduce a combination of native and tropical to enhance the resort-like feel of the amenities.

The firm also contributed four water features in the resort’s design, which cater to every age, including:
  • The large Sweetgrass Inn Splash Pad and artificial lawn provide an open space for families and visitors to enjoy.
  • The adults-only pool provides an outdoor space with calmer waters and serene relaxation.
  • The Spa Tub feature introduces warmer, relaxing soaking tubs for relaxing in the perfect Lowcountry environment.
  • The resort’s main pool features a beach entry, child pool and ample swimming space.
SeamonWhiteside rounded out the design with an upper terrace promenade that joins the existing development to the resort with waves of tabby banded onto the surface, which also provides the most expansive views and island sunsets lined with lush planters and lounge spaces.
