Charleston Horticultural Society, in partnership with the Queen Street Playhouse, will launch its first Summer Garden Film Series on the weekend of July 17th and 18th at the historic theatre located at 20 Queen Street.

‘This new series displays our continued commitment to promoting garden excellence and education while also celebrating the art of filmmaking and its interpretation and representation of gardening throughout the world,” said Charleston Horticultural Society Executive Director Kyle Barnette.

The weekend of films will include showings of award-winning documentaries including The Gardener featuring celebrated influential gardener and plantsman Frank Cabot, Portrait of a Garden, Five Seasons: The Gardens of Piet Oudolf, and The Well Placed Weed: The Bountiful Life of Ryan Gainey.

The series will also feature a free family event with the showing of the 1993 classic film The Secret Garden all on the big screen at the historic Queen Street Playhouse. All prices and show times can be found online at chashortsoc.org/filmseries.

The weekend kicks off with a free “Ask a Lowcountry Garden Expert” panel. This live and interactive event features a panel of local horticultural experts prepared to answer gardeners’ questions about all things horticulture in an hour-long panel led by Trident Tech’s Horticulture Program Director, Tony Bertauski.

Throughout the hour, attendees will have the opportunity to interact with local experts covering everything from lawn and turf care to trees, maintenance, color, design and much more.

The panel also includes Chris Burtt, Horticulture Agent with Clemson Extension and coordinator of the Tri-county Master Gardener program, Laura Geouge, Bedding Department Manager and Head Designer at Hyams Garden Center and Cameron Rickett, ISA Certified Arborist with Bartlett Tree Experts and CHS Hort Board Member. This panel is free to the public.
