Chef Brock, Nathalie Dupree & The Ordinary Receive James Beard Noms
The 2013 James Beard Award nominations were announced today at the Lowndes Grove Plantation and a few locals made the cut.
Chef Sean Brock was nominated in the Outstanding Chef category. The James Beard Foundation (JFB) says the nominees embody “a working chef in America whose career has set national industry standards and who has served as an inspiration to other food professionals. Candidates must have been working as chefs for at least the past 5 years.”
Brock will be looking to add to his hardware collection, which already houses a similar award. He won the JBF Award for Best Chef Southeast back in 2010.
Another Holy City nomination went to The Ordinary in the Best New Restaurant category. The JFB describes nominees in this section as “a restaurant opened in 2012 that already displays excellence in food, beverage, and service and is likely to have a significant impact on the industry in years to come.
Also earning a nomination was Nathalie Dupree, an author who lives in Charleston. She was nominated in the JBF Books Category for Mastering the Art of Southern Cooking which she wrote with Cynthia Graubar.
Sadly, none of the other Charleston representatives from the previous round of cuts made it to this round.
However, I wish Chef Brock, Ms. Dupree and The Ordinary good luck! The 2013 JBF Awards will be held on May 3rd and May 6th in New York City.
