The Gibbes Museum of Art will exhibit a collection of artwork by French masters of the Impressionism movement. Light Effects: The French Impressionists will be on display at the Gibbes from Sept. 3, 2021 – Feb. 20, 2022, showcasing principal artists of the movement such as Edgar Degas, Paul Cezanne, Auguste Renoir, Paul Gaugin, Mary Cassatt, and others

“Visitors will marvel at the sheer beauty of these charming, vividly colored paintings that capture the tenants of the Impressionist movement by depicting the interplay of light,” says Angela Mack, executive director of the Gibbes Museum of Art. “At the Gibbes, we are committed to enriching the lives of our patrons by bringing varied works from diverse artists to the museum and celebrating art’s ability to unite our community.”

Light Effects: The French Impressionists will feature works by French masters that showcase short, loose brushstrokes, bright colors and a focus on modern life that became the language of Impressionism. Selected from private collections located across the country, including Charleston, this show is organized as part of the museum’s collectors’ series with the assistance of The Fine Art Group. The exhibition will be on display in galleries two and three on the museum’s second floor.
