SC-1: The Basics

Published

on

The 1st Congressional District in South Carolina is holding its primary elections today. There are 16 Republican and 2 Democratic nominees. That crowded field will be heavily reduced upon the completion of these elections.

Here’s all you need to know about today’s primaries:

  • Polls close at 7 pm.
  • Eligible voters (those registered in District 1) could vote in either the Democratic or Republican primaries, but not both.
  • The top vote-getter only wins their primary if they earn 50% of the vote.
    • If no one hits that mark, the top two vote-getters will move on to a second primary on April 2nd.
    • Regardless the General Election between both parties will be on May 7th.
