LUNG FORCE Run/Walk Returns to Folly Beach on October 30
The American Lung Association in South Carolina this week announced that this year’s LUNG FORCE Run/Walk will take place at Folly Beach on Saturday, October 30th. For the event, participants will take part in a 5K on the beach to help raise awareness and funds to end lung cancer and lung disease.
“We are so happy to bring our LUNG FORCE Run/Walk back to Folly Beach, where we can gather safely to raise money for a critical cause – clean air and healthy lungs,” said Margaret Ann Youngs, Senior Manager of Development for the Lung Association. “Because of the global pandemic, it is more important than ever to support lung health. In fact, COVID-19 is a respiratory disease, and people who live with lung diseases like lung cancer, COPD and pulmonary fibrosis are at a higher risk for severe complications of COVID-19.”
This is the 13th year of the LUNG FORCE Run/Walk in Charleston. Last year, the event was held virtually for the safety of participants, volunteers, and staff. During this year’s event, the Lung Association will implement extensive health and safety measures for participants, volunteers, and staff. The organization is also offering a “Walk Your Way” option for those who are not able to make the in-person event.
Money raised at the LUNG FORCE Run/Walk will fund the Lung Association’s efforts to end lung cancer and lung disease, as well as support the organization’s COVID-19 Action Initiative. The COVID-19 Action Initiative is an investment to address COVID-19 and protect against future respiratory virus pandemics. The initiative works with public and private entities to increase research collaboration and develop new vaccines, detection tests and treatment therapies.
Registration for the LUNG FORCE Run/Walk is $30 for adults and $20 for children. For more information and to register, visit LUNGFORCE.org/Charleston.
