Fresh Future Farm and GreenWealth Farm Launch Rural Land Stewardship Training Project

Published

on

What happens when an innovative urban farm that centers ancestral conservation practices and food sovereignty partners with two rural farmers passionate about building a rich agricultural landscape for themselves and other new farmers? Pure synergy! Fresh Future Farm (FFF) is partnering with GreenWealth Farm, a 20-acre budding farm in the Midlands, to launch an initiative aimed at training Black farmers in ancestral land stewardship concepts.  The project kicks off with a two-day session on September 19th and 20th.

In early December, participants will take a field trip to a North Carolina intentional living community. There are also five monthly virtual cohort meetings and another onsite class at GreenWealth planned in April, dates and times TBD. The fee for the seven month program is $100.

“We’ve received numerous teaching requests from socially disadvantaged farmers,” said FFF Founder Germaine Jenkins. “This pilot land stewardship training equips them with skills and network needed to build robust operations. There’s an awesome canvas at GreenWealth Farm to dream up systems from ground level that are magical and familiar.”

Participants are chosen through an application process that includes a one-page form, video essay, and 50% deposit of program fees. Due to historic exclusion of Blackness from public and private spaces, this training is open to rural farmers who identify as Black or African-American in SC, NC and GA. Those interested can contact Fresh Future Farm at info@freshfuturefarm.org. Application deadline is Friday, September 3, 2021.
