UPDATE: Seven CCSD Schools Moving to Virtual Learning Due to COVID-19

UPDATE: 9/2/21 – Julian Mitchell Elementary School has become the latest school to make the switch to virtual learning. This is now the seventh CCSD school to move to virtual learning.

Three Charleston County School District (CCSD) schools are temporarily shifting to all-virtual learning on Thursday, September 2nd, 2021, due to a rising number of reported positive COVID-19 cases. Ashley River Creative Arts Elementary, Chicora Elementary, and Murray-LaSaine Montessori will transition to virtual instruction for two weeks, through September 16, 2021.

The schools join Charles Pinckney Elementary and Sullivan’s Island Elementary, which shifted to virtual instruction today for two weeks (September 1-15, 2021). Early College High School went all virtual last Friday for two weeks; their temporary all-virtual learning period is scheduled to end September 10,  2021.

CCSD says these decisions are based on the number of positive COVID-19 cases and the number of students quarantined as close contacts in each of the schools. They also said they will do “extensive, additional cleaning, including 100 percent  disinfection fogging in each of the schools in order to allow staff members to teach remotely from their classrooms for the two-week period.”
