Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum will offer visitors access to this year’s Admiral Nimitz Foundation Virtual Symposium hosted by the National Museum of the Pacific War. The theme is “A Catalyst for Change: Diversity in World War II.” The virtual event will explore the diverse groups that supported and fought in the War in the Pacific and how they overcame adversity abroad and on the home front.

“Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum is pleased to offer this virtual event to our visitors and the Lowcountry community,” said Executive Director Dr. Rorie Cartier. “The topics featured in this symposium will provide greater historical context for visitors as they explore the USS Yorktown and USS Laffey, both of which played significant roles in the Pacific Theater of World War II.”

“A Catalyst for Change” will stream live in the Smokey Stover Theater aboard the USS Yorktown on Friday, September 17th from 12 pm to 5 pm and Saturday, September 18th from 10 am to 1:45 pm. Access to the event is included in the price of admission.

Topics featured in the 34th annual symposium include “Half American: The Epic Story of Black Americans Fighting World War II at Home and Abroad,” “Diversity in the Modern Armed Forces,” and “Native Intelligence: American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian contributions to the Pacific War.”
