5th Street Group’s Church and Union to Open in Downtown Nashville this Weekend
Church and Union, the highly anticipated restaurant from acclaimed Charlotte and Charleston-based 5th Street Group, is opening in downtown Nashville on September 18th. Church and Union will take a playful approach to New American cuisine with a menu crafted by 5th Street Group partner and two-time Top Chef Alum Jamie Lynch and Chef Adam Hodgson. Menu highlights include F.O. Agnolotti, CU Seafood Tower and a Kurobuta Pork Chop, which will be complemented by craft cocktails and a broad selection of wines and beers.
“After spending many years admiring Nashville from a distance, I think we all feel very fortunate that we get to participate in this vibrant city. We look forward to welcoming all and hopefully we will CU soon,” says Patrick Whalen, owner of Church and Union.
In true 5th Street Group fashion, Church and Union’s food is as buzzworthy as its atmosphere. Visitors can expect an unmatched dining experience that is an artful marriage of Chef Jamie’s extensive culinary background and partners’ Patrick Whalen and Alejandro Torio’s vast restaurant and entertainment industry experience. Church and Union marks the fifth outpost in 5th Street Group’s portfolio, which includes 5Church Charlotte, La Belle Helene Charlotte, 5Church Charleston, and Tempest Charleston, which was recently named “Best New Restaurant” by USA Today.
The 5,902-square-foot space is outfitted with a massive white concrete bar, camel velvet banquettes, eye-catching chandeliers and floral arrangements that will be created weekly. Art is at the heart of the design, with the focal point being a hand-painted ceiling which showcases all 11,450 words of Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War,” a project which took artist Jon Norris over 37 days to complete. The ceiling is complemented by a 5th Street Group signature five-dollar bill painting by artists Matt Hooker and Rodney Raines; at over 9-feet-tall, it illustrates noteworthy Nashville landmarks and people. Nestled along lively 4th Avenue, the patio will seat 14, while indoor tables will seat 134 and the bar will seat 28. The space was designed by 5th Street Group in partnership with Certified Construction Services.
