For single parents, Charleston provides a plethora of fun activities and even educational opportunities as well. While your kid is at school or after you tuck them in bed, you can explore the city for more fun activities. During your travels, you may meet new people and even discover new passions that you did not know you had.

Useful resources such as local blogs’ calendars can help you plot out fun activities to do daily. Additionally, resources such as BetterHelp exist to help single parents with tips on improving their mental health.

Try to have fun in Charleston with the following activities.

High Wire Distilling

Address: 311 Huger St.

High Wire is Charleson’s first distillery since prohibition and includes a tour that highlights the process of creating high-quality drinks. You will get the chance to see custom mills, check out gleaming tanks, and learn more about the milling, mashing, fermenting, and distilling procedure.

Additionally, the owners of High Wire approach their business from a culinary perspective, providing a unique look into their business.

As your tour winds down, you have the chance to sample various fermented drinks, in the form of cocktails or flights. If you want a full tour of the distillery, the business highly recommends that you make a reservation.

Anyone over 21 years of age with a valid I.D. is welcome to enjoy the tour, so if you need to be in the company of adults for a while, this could be a good place for you.

Old Charleston Ghost Tours

Begins in: Washington Square Park

Some single parents are looking for an activity their child can get excited about with you. If you prefer exploring the town rather than sampling alcohol, the Old Charleston Ghost Tours may pique your interest.

The tour of Charleston’s haunting history can even be enjoyed with your dog.

Each tour consists of a knowledgeable guide leading you and a group of people through the streets of Charleston, educating you on some of the city’s spookiest residents.

Mike Brown, the creator of Pleasing Terrors, has been featured in local, national, and even international media. His experience with public speaking can make the tour a memorable experience for you, your child, and your pup.

Each tour lasts approximately 90 minutes, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and will cost you around $30 per adult and half the price for children.

The Charleston Museum

Address: 360 Meeting St.

If you enjoy the ghost tour because you and your child are learning more about the city’s history, then the Charleston museum could be another fun activity. The museum touts itself as a modern structure, introducing all of its visitors with a whale suspended in its two-story lobby.

Every wing is dedicated to an important part of Charleston’s history. In one, visitors walk through a Lowcountry timeline and see Native American clay pipes, the colonial construction of the early city wall, and structures dating back to the 18th century.

Another section shows dinosaur exhibits and a taxidermy representation of the city’s bird population.

The entire museum can be seen in about 60 to 90 minutes, with narration describing the exhibits by genuine Charleston residents. One of the highlights is an American buffalo whose bones were discovered offshore, insinuating that Charleston’s coastline once stretched out much farther to sea in the past.

Citrus Club

If you’re ready for an adult beverage after a busy day exploring the city with your child, the city has plenty of cool bars and restaurants.

If you want to enjoy some food after taking a few of the tours, the Citrus Club offers appetizing meals with fanciful cocktails. You can either enjoy your food inside or let your host find your seating on the outdoor terrace.

Some of your food choices include coconut-encrusted shrimp, French-style chicken “lollipop” drumettes, and the club’s signature burgers.

You also have many drinks to choose from as well, including wine, cocktails, frozen drinks, and aged rum. If you enjoy your food outside, you will also have a good view of the city’s harbor.

Find the right place for you

Regardless of what you choose, Charleston has many places perfect for single parents, with or without their children accompanying them. There are even more places to explore and dine, so hopefully, this list is a good start.
