Black History All Year Long: Focus on Women Series Wraps up on October 21st

The four-part discussion series Black History All Year Long: Focus on Women will hold its series finale on October 21st. “Final Resting Places,” the last 90-minute discussion, will be held virtually via Zoom starting at 6 pm, courtesy of Charleston County Parks.

This fourth conversation of the Black History Month series will focus on Black burial spaces, which have become a public policy issue nationwide. Remains are being disinterred, discovered, and disregarded, and in other cases, burial sites are overgrown and nearly inaccessible. Attendees of this virtual session will take a video tour of local burial spaces and then hear from leading voices, all women, who have experience with this topic. The discussion will cover burial spaces in the state of South Carolina, what’s happening nationwide, and share specific things that the public can do to support this very important community initiative.

The four-part discussion series debuted during Black History Month, with each event featuring a historical overview, special guest, and moderated discussion, ending with a question and answer session.

The program is held from 6 pm to 7:30 pm and is free of charge. However, space is limited and advance registration is required. Registration is available at this link or CharlestonCountyParks.com. Registered participants will be emailed a Zoom link prior to the start of the program.
