After canceling its event in 2021, Southeastern Wildlife Exposition (SEWE), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, will return next year to celebrate 40 years in 2022, February 17th to 20th in downtown Charleston. General admission passes, VIP packages, and special event tickets for the highly-anticipated event will be available for purchase beginning October 9th.

SEWE will host its event at five major exhibit sites in 2022: Charleston Place, Brittlebank Park, Gaillard Center, Charleston Marriott, and Marion Square. The show plans to bring back its popular attractions, including the Fine Art Gallery, DockDogs® competitions, Center for Birds of Prey demonstrations, Jeff Corwin presentations, a curated exhibit of artisans and craftsmen, canine demonstrations from herding and retrieving breeds, conservation organizations, the South Carolina Department of Agriculture tent and more. In addition, a few new attractions will be added in honor of the 40 year celebration.

“For 40 years we have worked tirelessly to create an event that is enjoyed by art collectors, outdoor enthusiasts, and conservationists, in a setting that the entire family can enjoy,” said Jimmy Huggins, SEWE President and CEO. “We have our loyal supporters, from attendees to corporate partners, to thank for our ability to produce a world-class event year after year. We look forward to the return of SEWE in 2022 and celebrating 40 years with our dedicated patrons in February.”

As a special promotion to commemorate 40 years of SEWE, all general admission passes (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and 3-Day) will be 20 percent off through November 1st with the code SEWE2022. A general admission ticket provides access to all five of SEWE’s venues, as well as entry to all shows, lectures, and demonstrations during SEWE weekend.

A limited number of VIP packages will also be available on a first-come, first-served basis. As a member of the SEWE VIP Program, attendees enjoy perks and insider access throughout the weekend, including private art viewing, exclusive lounge areas, after-hour parties, private shuttle services and priority entry to all venues during show hours.

Two popular SEWE special events will return in 2022 – the Lowcountry Social and Birds of a Feather ladies benefit brunch. SEWE special events provide a more intimate experience throughout the weekend and are all-inclusive of food, beverage and lively entertainment.

“SEWE is a treasured annual event that contributes significantly to the local economy as well as conservation initiatives to protect wildlife and preserve natural resources. It is also now considered the Lowcountry’s unofficial kick-off to spring,” said Helen Hill, CEO of Explore Charleston and SEWE Board Member. “Since 1983, the Exposition has showcased exceptional artists and educational entertainment and welcomed locals and visitors alike who share a passion for the great outdoors. I predict the 2022 Exposition will be one of the most highly anticipated ever after a pandemic-generated cancellation of last year’s event. We look forward to resuming this tradition and safely hosting an Exposition for our community that will support the local travel and hospitality industry.”

SEWE 2022 will showcase the work of approximately 100 painters, carvers, and sculptors in Charleston Place Hotel’s Grand Ballroom. Each year, SEWE includes well-respected veterans, mid-career artists and talented up-and-comers in the weekend event. Julia Rogers has been selected as the 2022 Featured Artist, and her painting, Golden Light, depicting three swans has been selected as the Featured Piece and the subject of the official SEWE 2022 poster.

SEWE is recognized as the nation’s premier wildlife art show and kickoff event for Charleston’s tourism season. The nonprofit organization’s mission is to showcase the finest in wildlife art, create awareness for the conservation of wildlife and the environment, positively influence wildlife and nature education and impact the local and statewide economies through increased tourism.
