Charleston’s Untapped Art Festival, formerly known as For the Love of Art Festival, is being held at Tradesman Brewing Co. from noon until 6 pm on Saturday, December 4th.

Local artists Chad Dyar and Julie Glass (both of Charleston Artist Guild) have partnered with Tradesman for the event, which will include an afternoon of artwork, live music, local beer, and food (vegan options will be available). The festival will be held outdoors with plenty of space to shop in a socially distanced environment and will be following CDC’s COVID-19 guidelines. This event is free to attend and free parking is located onsite at 1647 King St Ext.

Donations are welcome in support of The Lonon Foundation, a nonprofit whose mission is to help children affected by their parent or caregiver’s cancer diagnosis find comfort, heal, and grow from their shared experiences.

Last year, the For the Love of Art Festival was born out of a desire to help the community by uniting artists and the rest of the public face-to-face for the first time since the lockdown. With 24 artists and over 200 attendees last year, Dyar and Glass felt the festival was a success. This year, they take that same desire of helping the community to not only give artists and the public a place to connect but also to give back through the Lonon Foundation.

“We’ve all experienced so much loss in the past year and a half,” Dyar said. “I believe we’re still in a time of healing and hopefully growth. Art is such a healing thing, whether it be the process of creating it or consuming it. That’s why we are so fortunate to be able to pair each of these artists’ creative journeys and the healing work that the Lonon Foundation is doing with children who are dealing with life-altering circumstances. We hope to inspire healing and growth in another generation through art and other activities.”

Julie Glass, Charleston Artist Guild Artist and co-organizer of Untapped Art Festival with Dyar, said:

“This is my second year participating in the Art Festival at Tradesman Brewery. Last year due to COVID the creators of the festival simply wanted to provide the artists a platform to show their work and folks a safe place to be together for a good time. And we certainly did. This year we are taking it up a notch staying true to our mission to make it a win-win for as many folks as we can in our community. In addition to some well-known local artists, we have found some excellent artists who locals may not be as familiar with. To make it even more exciting and meaningful, Untapped Art Fest will be supporting The Lonon Foundation, a Lowcountry organization who supports children whose parent or caregiver has been diagnosed with cancer. Art heals and inspires and I’m so looking forward to folks coming down to see some truly talented artists, hear great music, enjoy excellent food and drinks, and most importantly to feel the energy that surrounds this very special art festival.”

Admission to this event is free. Details and updates on the event can be found at https://www.facebook.com/events/911865263091350.
