One80 Place Celebrates Ninth Annual Turkey and a $20 Drive
Generous community members looking to help out this holiday season are invited on Tuesday, November 23rd, 2021 to drive by One80 Place for its ninth annual Turkey and a $20 donation drive.
The organization is asking individuals and families, small businesses, and organizations to collect and drop off monetary gifts, proteins (ham and turkey), and grocery or household store gift cards to help end homelessness for those struggling in the community. Every dollar collected will go directly to support the community kitchen, which produces over 100,000 meals each year to people staying in the shelter or those in the community in need of a nutritious lunch.
“We are excited that Turkey and a $20 continues as a memorable event for families, individuals, and co-workers to participate in and give back at the start of the holiday season,” said Stacey Denaux, CEO of One80 Place. “Now a tradition in the region, Turkey and a $20 has proven to be a day of philanthropy, friendship, and giving thanks. Last year, the community answered our call for help, and we know they will come through again this November.”
In 2020, the effort raised $35,000, 200 turkeys, and 80 grocery gift cards. One80 Place was able to prepare over 12,000 meals with the donated proteins and monetary donations. Organizers hope to collect $40,000, 180 turkeys or hams this year, along with 100 $20 grocery or household gift cards. Due to the ongoing concern of Covid-19, One80 Place has been working harder than ever to get clients housed and make sure they stay housed. The organization saw a 46% increase in its caseload in 2020. With so many clients struggling as the colder months approach, the organization is helping more people with groceries and household essentials. Gift card donations will aide in this process.
Donating is easy; just visit One80 Place at 35 Walnut Street on Tuesday, November 23rd from 8 am to 4 pm, roll down your window, and donate. Those that cannot come by on November 23rd, can pledge their support by buying a virtual turkey online at one80place.org.
