Carolina Youth Development Center Hosts Carols & Cocktails Event with Holy City Arts & Lyric Opera

Carolina Youth Development Center (CYDC) today announced the organization’s inaugural Carols & Cocktails, a holiday-themed fundraising event that will be held this December featuring Holy City Arts & Lyric Opera (HALO). Proceeds will  help fund programs and services of both CYDC and HALO.

Earlier this year, HALO hosted a free concert for CYDC residents on the organization’s Charleston County campus. The concert was well received by youth and staff, and shortly after, the idea for Carols & Cocktails was born.

“Charleston was the site of the first opera ever performed in America and the site of the first municipal orphanage in America,” said Dan Daniel, CYDC’s Vice President of Development. “We are thrilled that over 200 years later, HALO and CYDC are working together to raise awareness for each organization and funds for our respective missions.”

CYDC’s mission is to protect children, empower families, and prepare youth for adulthood by providing a safe environment, educational support, and career readiness in collaboration with  families and community partners. The organization provides services to more than 800 children  and families and housing for up to 48 residents across two campuses in Charleston and Berkeley counties.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Carolina Youth Development Center on this event,” said Leah Edwards, HALO’s Founding General Director. “We thoroughly enjoyed performing for the youth and seeing their excited reactions and interest in learning more about theatre. Our organization is committed to ensuring everyone in our community has access to live theatre experiences.”

HALO provides a comprehensive approach to exploring the world of opera. Through their school programs, historical walking tour, Opera 101 course, house concerts and large-scale productions, HALO’s goal is to invite everyone to experience opera in the way that is most  comfortable for them.

Carols & Cocktails, the first fundraiser event between HALO and CYDC, will feature holiday themed opera and carols, signature drinks, and desserts. The event will be held on Thursday, December 2nd at the Pierce Park Pavilion on Daniel Island from 7 pm to 9 pm. Individual tickets are available for purchase for $75.
