Trident United Way’s AmeriCorps program is leading an effort to fill up 1,000 “Bags of Joy” to assist locals struggling with homelessness. Since the COVID-19 eviction moratorium ended, the area has has seen an increase in individuals who need assistance finding housing because they have been evicted.

From now until December 3rd, you can help by buying a kit via this link: www.roonga.com/bagsofjoy

Hygiene kids are available for less than $15 and can provide a great first step for a person struggling with home and job instability. Each kit provides the recipient with a snack, basic hygiene items, and cold weather protection.

“Our AmeriCorps members are committed to providing services, resources and referrals that help move families from a state of financial crisis to stability,” said Angie Williams, Trident United Way AmeriCorps Coordinator. “Bags of Joy started nine years ago to assist populations who need the help.”

All purchased kits will be distributed through the following agencies: Holy City Missions, The Navigation Center, North Charleston Dream Center, and Neighbors Together.

“Helping people gain confidence starts with little things,” said Pablo Morales of the North Charleston Dream Center. “These Bags of Joy help us give that extra boost to the people we serve, who are currently living on the streets.”
