Dr. Annie Andrews Raises Half a Million Dollars in First Two Months of Campaign for Congress
Local pediatrician and Democratic candidate for South Carolina’s First Congressional District, Dr. Annie Andrews, announced on Monday that she has raised over half a million dollars in the first two months of her campaign for Congress.
Since launching her campaign on November 8th, Dr. Andrews has raised over $500,000, which her campaign said broke the record for most money ever raised by a challenger in the first fundraising quarter of a congressional campaign in South Carolina.
For comparison’s sake, the campaign shared the following first quarter fundraising totals for recent campaigns:
- Dr. Annie Andrews (Q4 2021): $500K+
- Nancy Mace (Q3 2019): $362K+
- Joe Cunningham (Q3 2017): $105K+
Dr. Andrews said she was honored by the support she has received so far in her campaign. She released the following statement:
“I am deeply humbled by the unprecedented support our campaign has received since announcing just two months ago. Lowcountry voters are desperate for leaders from outside of the political world who are willing to step up and deliver positive change, and that’s exactly what I am offering our district. As a pediatrician, I hear firsthand about the challenges facing Lowcountry families every day. From the health and economic challenges from COVID, to the safety and quality of our schools, to a changing climate threatening our coastal quality of life, I am committed to tackling these challenges in an independent and common sense way”
“Washington is broken, and it’s filled with career politicians like Nancy Mace who are more interested in being famous than effective. Instead of looking out for her constituents and doing what’s right for the Lowcountry, Nancy Mace has been laser focused on auditioning for her next job at Fox News. She voted against an infrastructure bill that will bring over $6 billion to South Carolina, the American Rescue Plan which stabilized our economy during the height of the pandemic, and even voted against the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. She recently made national news for spreading COVID misinformation on national television and for picking juvenile Twitter fights with her colleagues. The people of the Lowcountry are simply fed up with her immature antics and hyper-partisan behavior. I’ll be the independent voice for the Lowcountry that Nancy Mace promised to be. But unlike her, I will never back down from doing what is right.”
Dr. Andrews raised over $200,000 in the first 24 hours of her campaign in November and her announcement video has since garnered over 2 million views on Twitter.
