Press Release

On Sunday, January 23rd, Palmetto Carriage Works will host its 11th annual “Locals Ride Free Day” after pausing last year due to the pandemic. Charleston area residents are invited to visit the Big Red Barn, meet the animals, and take a free ride. Tours leave from 8 Guignard Street in downtown Charleston and will run from 9 am to 4 pm.

The time honored tradition is a favorite of Charleston’s oldest and largest carriage tour company, Palmetto Carriage Works, and a long time favorite of locals as well. In the past, the company has hosted up to 1200 guests on this day.

“Interest in the event this year is larger than ever and we are encouraging guests to arrive at the barn early,” General Manager Tommy Doyle said.

Patrons can start putting their names on a list as early as 9 am by showing up at the barn and checking in with the host. While reservations are not accepted, guests will not be required to wait at the barn until their departure time.

“This is a great time to walk around the historic district and support some of the small local vendors that are still trying to make up for last year’s loss,” Doyle said.

Palmetto Carriage Works’ famous Big Red Barn is located near lots of great restaurants too. So check in early, do some shopping, grab lunch and enjoy an hour-long historic tour on Charleston’s preferred method of transportation, a carriage.

The company is also offering free parking in their lot at 22 Anson Street, but spots are limited and are first come first serve – yet another reason to show up early. For more information, call 843-723-8145 or visit www.palmettocarriage.com.
