Charleston Jazz Announces a New Band
Momentum is a brand-new music group, presented by Charleston Jazz, with some of the finest musicians in the Lowcountry. The group will have its first performances on March 11, 2022 at Forte Jazz Lounge. There will be two sets: 7 pm and 9:30 pm.
The members of Momentum create an eclectic mix of Classic and Contemporary Fusion, R&B, Soul Jazz, and Gospel. Their music is inspired by Robert Glasper, Jon Batiste, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Jill Scott, and Snarky Puppy. The group is led by Demetrius Doctor, Music Director of the Royal Missionary Baptist Church.
“Momentum will feature some of Charleston’s most talented musicians playing music we all love,” Doctor said. “I’m so excited to bring these incredible musicians together on one stage and present our interpretations of the music that shaped and continue to shape many of our careers.”
