Prepare for Charleston’s Carmageddon

carmegeddonIt’s an insanely busy weekend here in the Holy City and residents, visitors, and passerbys should be prepared for a possible Carmageddon!

Here are all the traffic alerts and information you need to know to avoid the choas:

  • Traffic alert ahead of Cooper River Bridge Run (WCBD).
    • 5:45 a.m. – Contingent time to close Coleman Blvd from Whilden St. to Fairmont St. (Whilden traffic diverted into Old Village)
    • 6:15 a.m. – Pedestrian Lane Closure for southbound traffic, northbound pedestrians allowed
    • 6:30 a.m. – Contingent time to close Coleman Bvld. From Chuck Dawley to Fairmont St. .
    • 7:00 a.m. – Coleman Blvd. Closed to Traffic and Ravenel Bridge Closed to all traffic (BOTH DIRECTIONS)
      • Northbound closed, southbound utilized by emergency equipment
      • US 17 south traffic diverted to Mathis Ferry Rd.
      • Magrath Darby blocked from District 3 side
      • Wingo Way access to bridge blocked
    • 10:00 a.m. – Portions of Coleman open as they clear
    • 10:00 a.m. – No additional runners/walkers allowed onto Ravenel Bridge
      – Pedestrian lane opens
      – Straggler bus enters Ravenel southbound on northbound side
      – Cleaning of Ravenel northbound lanes
    • 10:30 a.m. – Possible opening of Ravenel Bridge
