Press Release

Faith, Activity, and Nutrition (FAN) is a FREE program that  helps churches create healthier environments and congregations. FAN is now enrolling for the  April online training session. Training includes engaging lessons and resources that will enable  churches nationwide to become healthier during the ongoing pandemic and beyond.

Physical activity and healthy eating are known to prevent and treat common conditions including  heart disease, stroke, diabetes, arthritis, cancer, and obesity. The FAN program works to  prevent and address these common health conditions impacting congregations. It is effective and is included in the National Cancer Institute’s Evidence-Based Cancer Control Programs.

The goal of FAN is to help churches build physical activity and healthy eating into its regular  practices. FAN supports churches to:

  • Increase opportunities for physical activity and healthy eating
  • Create guidelines for physical activity and healthy eating
  • Engage leaders in FAN goals and support their health
  • Share health messages with members

FAN is offered through a research study at the University of South Carolina Prevention  Research Center. The deadline to enroll for the next session is April 1, 2022, and participation in  FAN is open to churches across the U.S. To learn more or to sign up, visit  http://prevention.sph.sc.edu/projects/fantraining.htm or contact the FAN team at FAN@sc.edu or 877-971-5259 (toll-free).
