Press Release

Watterson Brands is pleased to announce that Side Hustle Brewing Co. (144 Arrow Rd. on Hilton Head Island) will move to a new, expansive location at 59 Pope Ave., later this summer. The 17,000 square foot former Bank of America building turn brewery will include indoor seating, an exterior beer garden with additional patio seating, 20 Side Hustle craft brews on tap, a merchandise shop, and four dining options: Taco Bills, Bank Burgers, Pizza Co., and Benjamin’s food truck.

“The original intention with the building purchase was a much larger entertainment development, but we pivoted from this plan for the immediate expansion of the Brewery,” said Billy Watterson, CEO of Watterson Brands. “Not only it is the former use of the building conveniently on theme, but the space allows for patrons to experience the beer year-round in the way the brewers originally intended: a fun and family-inclusive atmosphere.”

L.J. Bush, co-owner of Side Hustle Brewing Co. and founder of the youth mentorship program Changing Our Image Now (COIN), and Watterson have been collaborating on the project since the November 2021 acquisition of the Brewery.

“I am thrilled to be in partnership with Watterson Brands and in full support for what the organization stands for in the community in terms of mentorship and giving back. That’s where my relationship began with Billy, and we will continue to build upon this into the future,” said Bush.

The two new restaurant concepts, Taco Bills and Bank Burgers, are from restaurateurs Marshall Sampson and Bill Alberts, co-owners of Santa Fe. Sampson, who also owns and operates Pizza Co., will present menus to the public prior to the official opening. Benjamin’s creator and operator, Ben Watterson, will also reveal new menu items specifically catering to this location in the coming months.

“Like many entrepreneurs, to see an idea expand into a full-time business is a dream come true,” said Lee Holyoak, Head Brewer. “Side Hustle started out as the ‘smallest brewery in South Carolina,’ but with the community’s support and enthusiasm it has quickly become a destination for beer aficionados. We look forward to serving our future friends and neighbors on Pope Avenue.”

Side Hustle Brewing Company’s current customers will notice the company’s logo and can design has changed, too. Just as the name implies – whether it is making ends meet or saving for something special – the Brewery’s brand celebrates those who go above and beyond for their ‘side hustle.’ The logo now features a money-scripted font and the marketing materials, including can design, will highlight the fictitious Benjamin Banker, CFO of Makin’ Bacon.

The previous Side Hustle Brewing Company location on Arrow Rd. will remain open strictly as a canning and brewing location to support distribution, and for canned beer to-go.

About Side Hustle Brewing Company

Side Hustle Brewing Company, the latest of the Watterson Brands acquisitions, is currently the smallest craft brewery in South Carolina. The current 21 Side Hustle craft brews were created by brewer Lee Holyoak and his wife Emily, along with original founders Mike Palmieri and Faith Seiders, as a “side hustle” turned career in early 2021. One year later, the brewery features outdoor seating, regular food truck options, draft beer, and 16 oz. singles and four-packs available to-go Monday-Wednesday, 3-6 p.m.; and Thursday-Saturday, 2-8 p.m.

A selection of Side Hustle craft beers is now sold at Burnt Church Distillery and Pizza Co., 120 Bluffton Rd. during normal business hours.
