Rep. Nancy Mace Passes 5 Bills Out of Committee on Same Day
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) issued the following statement on the passage of five legislative initiatives she sponsored or co-sponsored out of two House Committees and advancing to the the full House floor for final consideration:
“I was sent to Washington to legislate, to work with my colleagues on advancing good things for the Lowcountry. Today is another one of those days, and I thank the Committee on Oversight and Reform as well as the Veterans Committee for the opportunity to markup and pass 5 of my bills today. While others are here to make a name for themselves by being the loudest voice in the room, I know the true work of being a Member of Congress is to get the work done. ”
The Committee on Veterans Affairs today passed Rep. Mace’s Veterans’ Cyber Risk Awareness Act (H.R. 2326), aimed at protecting veterans from cyber risks including disinformation , identify theft, and other scams spread over the internet and social media through a public affairs campaign. Additionally, the Committee passed H.R. 2724, the VA Peer Support Enhancement for MST Survivors Act, which Rep. Mace introduced with Rep. Delgado (D-NY). This bill would provide additional support for victims of military sexual trauma by establishing a peer support network which would help guide veterans through what can be a difficult process.
Additionally, the Committee on Oversight and Reform considered and passed three bills designating Post Offices in the Lowcountry after prominent figures with ties to the region. This includes Charles Fraser, the developer of the Sea Pines Plantation, Wild Dunes, and Kiawah Island; Caesar Wright, a Hilton Head Island native who served as the first Postmaster of the island; and Harriet Tubman, famed abolitionist and advisor for the historic Mitchelville community, the first Freedman’s town in America.
