Charleston Moves Announces 2022 Mobility Month Programming
Charleston Moves dedicates May as Mobility Month to bring the community together, elevating multi-modal accomplishments, providing updates on priority projects, and offering calls to action, as well as volunteer opportunities, to advance the people-powered movement. Critical mass is of critical importance as Charleston Moves works to build widespread, diverse community support and demonstrate how safe, equitable infrastructure that works for all, benefits all.
The 2022 schedule includes a kickoff party, creek cleanup, two bicycle rides, and a bike light giveaway. Both police-escorted bike rides are intended to highlight dangerous river crossings that Charleston Moves has been advocating to improve, while pointing to infrastructure improvements underway on either side and offering ways for the public to take action.
On May 15th, participants will have the opportunity to ride over Ashley River Bridges and the Wappoo Cut Bridge with the Bridge Adventure Ride. On May 18, riders will cross the North Bridge for the Ride of Silence, honoring those we have lost on our streets. Gatherings will be held following both rides, where the public can come together in solidarity and take action for change. RSVPs are requested, and waivers are required to ride.
Additionally, through May 31st, all donations to Charleston Moves will be doubled, up to $30k, thanks to the Pathfinder Foundation. Visit the Mobility Month Matching Campaign to contribute.
Charleston Moves promotes streets that are designed and built for everyone, allowing the community to choose among many safe ways to travel. When people are able to ride a bike, walk and use public transit, it means equitable opportunities and better access to affordable food and housing, as well as job security. It means an improved local economy. It means opportunities for civic engagement. It means cleaner air and water, climate change mitigation, improved public health, and reduced traffic congestion.
Charleston Moves is a mobility advocacy nonprofit that works to transform our roadways and bridges into safe, connected and equitable spaces for all. Progress is people-powered!
