Gibbes Museum of Art Announces Return of the Gibbes on the Street Fair During Inaugural Art Charleston Festival
The Gibbes Museum of Art is bringing back their popular Gibbes on the Street culinary street fair on Thursday, May 12th. Over 15 restaurants from the Charleston area will serve tasty bite at the festival being held on Meeting Street, backdropped by the Gibbes’ Beaux-Arts style façade. In addition to food, there will be an open bar and live music. This event is part of the Gibbes’ inaugural visual art festival, Art Charleston, happening May 9th to 13th.
Art Charleston will be a weeklong celebration inspired by the museum’s major spring exhibition, Fighters for Freedom: William H. Johnson Picturing Justice, on display at the Gibbes through August 7th, 2022. In addition to Gibbes on the Street, the Amy P. Coy Forum, Art of Design, and Soirée will anchor the week’s activities. “The events that make up Art Charleston will all celebrate creative freedom,” said Angela Mack, executive director of the Gibbes Museum of Art. “At this street party, we will celebrate the city’s extraordinary culinary scene and the artists behind the remarkable food in Charleston. By bringing the community together and providing this opportunity of discovery, fun and overall inspiration, we will celebrate the creative freedom we all enjoy under a beautiful Charleston night sky.”
