Patriots Point Now Booking for First-Ever Operation Overnight Family Weekend
For the first time ever, Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum is offering its popular Operation Overnight program to small groups and families. Usually only groups of 10 or more have the opportunity to sleep aboard the historic USS Yorktown aircraft carrier, but the weekend of July 15th and 16th no group minimum is required.
The overnight experience is available for one or two nights. The cost to attend is $85 per person for one night or $145 per person for two nights. Guests will enjoy sleeping in traditional Navy berthing compartments, after-hours access to the museum, and a movie night in the ship’s theater. All attendees will receive a commemorative patch and those staying for two nights will receive an Operation Overnight T-shirt. Guests will also participate in the immersive Live Like a Sailor program. This program includes guided tours of the USS Yorktown, USS Laffey, and Medal of Honor Museum. Through Live Like a Sailor, visitors will learn history, naval terminology, and heroism as they discover the stories of those who served on the ships.
“There’s nothing quite like sleeping aboard the USS Yorktown,” said Operation Overnight Director Sarah Edmiston. “You’ll end your day with the most beautiful sunset views overlooking the harbor and Charleston skyline, and wake up surrounded by history. The overnight experience is something families will remember for years. We are excited to make the program available to even more people.”
Children must be at least six-years-old to sleep aboard the USS Yorktown. The sleeping quarters are split into male and female berthing areas, so all children participating in the program must bring an adult chaperone of the same gender. Meals are not included. Reservations for Family Weekend are limited and expected to sell out. Booking starts on June 1st and ends June 30th, or when reservations are full.
