What Farmers Need To Understand About the Process of Growing Marijuana

Published

on

If marijuana’s legal in your country or state, then you may be able to grow it at home. Provided that there aren’t restrictions regarding its use (i.e., it’s only allowed for medicinal use), then there shouldn’t be any problems with you growing it yourself; make sure that you check first, though.

Growing marijuana is a lot like growing any other crop. It takes determination, motivation, commitment, and most importantly, money. If you possess all of these things, then there’s nothing that can stop you from growing your own marijuana crop.

Here are some things that you need to understand about the marijuana growth process:

Seeds

If you want to grow Cannabis yourself, then the first thing that you need to do is to purchase seeds. The type and variety of seeds that you buy depend largely upon how strong you want the Cannabis to be and how much crop yield you desire. In an article published by Kushteller, there are lots of different strains to choose from. You will also need to decide whether you want photoperiod Cannabis plants or auto-flowering plants. You can purchase seeds from most dispensaries. If you can’t find any, then you can order them from abroad. The Cannabis seed trade is not regulated, even in countries where the plant’s illegal (usually). It is very important that you research any dealer that you buy seeds from so that you can be confident they are a reliable source before ordering.

Space

You also need to take space into consideration. You won’t be able to grow a lot of Cannabis plants if you don’t have a large amount of space. As Cannabis grows, it grows up and out. If you just want to grow one or two plants, then a small cupboard or room will do. If you want to grow a lot, then you will need a very large room or space. You might also want to consider outdoor growth. A lot of people grow their Cannabis outdoors. If the weather’s good in your area, then this is a possibility.

Pests

Pests are every Cannabis grower’s greatest adversary. Unfortunately, it is very hard to avoid them (especially if you are growing up outdoors). The only option for pest treatments is to spray your Cannabis with a pesticide. You need to try to find a pesticide that’s as gentle as possible so that your product’s end-user doesn’t consume large amounts of harmful chemicals every time that they take your products. It’s also possible to grow Cannabis without pesticides following the organic method, but this can be an extremely expensive growing methodology to adhere to.

Warmth

Cannabis needs the right amount of warmth. The temperature that you need for your plants depends largely upon the seeds that you are growing. Some strains thrive in colder environments. If you are going to grow Cannabis indoors, then you can keep your plants warm with high-quality, high-strength lighting. If you are growing them outdoors and you live in a very hot area, then you can grow them outdoors in a greenhouse. As already mentioned, you do need to worry about pests if you are growing outdoors. You unfortunately also need to worry about thieves, who regularly target outdoor crops.

Interference

On the subject of thieves, you need to take great lengths to prevent anybody from being able to interfere with your crops. The best way to do this is to install cameras around your property. Being able to constantly monitor your crops will give you the opportunity to catch thieves or identify anybody that is hanging around your Cannabis plants. It’s probably also a good idea to install alarms around your property perimeter. You can purchase a trip alarm which is activated as soon as somebody knocks into them or steps on them. These kinds of alarms are not especially expensive.

Light

Lastly, Cannabis needs light. If you are growing Cannabis outdoors then this isn’t something that you need to worry about because your plants will get natural sunlight. If you are growing Cannabis indoors, then you will need to invest in a proper Cannabis lighting setup. Cannabis lights can cost a lot of money, so it’s probably a good idea to buy all of your equipment second-hand when you are just starting out. Before buying anything that’s second-hand make sure that you thoroughly check it out and make sure that everything’s working the way that it’s supposed to be.

Marijuana growing can be a lot of work but is very rewarding. In addition to being very rewarding, growing marijuana can also be very lucrative. It’s a great way to make a little money on the side, so why not give it a go if it’s legalized where you live?
