Press Release

South of Broadway Theatre Company (SOBTC) and Threshold Repertory Theatre (TRT) are excited to announce a joint production of Wolf Hall. The show enjoyed a sold-out limited run on Broadway during 2015 and a plush BBC TV production during the same year.  The play was adapted for the stage by Mike Poulton and covers best sellers “Wolf Hall” and “Bring up The Bodies” by Hilary Mantel about the reign of King Henry VIII. The centerpiece of this ambitious production are nearly 50 elaborate and authentic Tudor costumes curated in New York City and shipped to Charleston specifically for this production. All performances will be at TRT at 84.5 Society Street from October 7 through the 23rd.   Visit our website for audition details. The show will feature a local cast and will be directed by SOBTC’s Artistic Director, Mary Gould.

The Spring SOBTC mainstage production will be Bondage by Star Finch. This AfroSurreal play is set on a small island in the South before the emancipation of slavery, where Zuri, a young slave girl, must use her wits and faith to outsmart the twisted desires of a drunken master and a sadistic mistress. And where hierarchies of race and gender collide in this tale of an enslaved girl who dares to follow her own spiritual journey towards liberation and transcendence. Although this production is not a joint production with TRT all performances will be at TRT from March 3-12.

The Fall Youth Production will be The Addams Family, youth version. Audition dates are August 22 & 23, 5-6:30 and performance dates are November 17,18,19 and 20.  The Spring Youth Production will be Beauty and the Beast. Auditions will be January 9 & 10 5-6:30 and performances are scheduled for April 27,28,29 and 30.  All auditions and performances will be at South of Broadway Theatre Company’s new location (see below).  Youth show tickets are $12 youth, $15 Adult.  Tickets will be available on our website one month before the show: SouthofBroadway.com.

South of Broadway Theatre Company supports and seeks All-Inclusive casting.
