Former Stingray Bednar is First Coach to Win ECHL, AHL, and NHL Titles

Former South Carolina Stingray player and coach Jared Bednar is now the first coach to lead teams to championships in the ECHL, AHL and NHL.

Bednar had a 15-year association with the ECHL as a player, assistant coach, and head coach. He was the first person to win three Kelly Cup titles, capturing championships as a player with South Carolina in 1997 and 2001, and one as the Stingrays’ head coach in 2009.

Bednar then went on to lead Lake Erie to the American Hockey League Calder Cup championship in 2016. He was inducted into the ECHL Hall of Fame in 2020.

Bednar just concluded his fourth season as head coach of the National Hockey League’s Colorado Avalanche, and won the Stanley Cup on Sunday, June 26th, 2022.
