Published

on

Being an amazingly beautiful and attractive country for both businessmen and tourists, the United Arab Emirates is primarily an Islamic country, whose territory has strict laws and regulations, to know and comply with which every visitor is obliged. In the UAE there is a federal law, there are local laws of the emirates. In order to avoid problems with the law, we are sharing with you the general information, which every tourist needs to be well aware of.

Rules of behavior in public transport

In the Arab Emirates, there is a wide system of fines on public transport. There you can get a fine not only for fare evasion, but also just for standing in the wrong place in the subway.

In the subway the most common misfortune for tourists is driving in the wrong wagon. The subway has three types of cars and parts of wagons: silver (regular), gold (luxury) and pink (only for women and children). For riding in the wrong wagon there is a fine of 100 dirhams.

Following the traffic rules is the guarantee of a peaceful vacation. Recently car rental services have become very popular due to the large selection of cars and rental services. It is possible to hire a car while planning a trip to the UAE to avoid fraud. The service provides tourists with the best cars from the latest models such as lamborghini urus to the electric teslas and luxury Bentley’s. When renting a car, do not exceed the speed limit, do not park your car in inappropriate places and certainly do not drive in a state of intoxication – in this case the punishment will be an arrest and or deportation.

Dress code for tourists

In the UAE there have always been dress code rules for tourists and residents alike, but they have softened a bit over time. The dress code rules now include the following guidelines:

  • No flamboyantly tight clothing or semi-transparent clothing should be worn. Clothing should cover the body from shoulders to hips.
  • Official guidelines also ask to cover the knees and shoulders. But these official recommendations are often not followed.

Restrictions during the month of Ramadan

Ramadan is the holy month in Islam. In most Islamic countries, the law does not oblige anyone to fast, not even Muslims. But the situation is different in the UAE. Article 313 point of the UAE Criminal Code prohibits Muslims from drinking, eating, or smoking. In other words, there is no legal obligation to fast, but it is prohibited for anyone, including tourists, to eat in public places

 Alcohol consumption

It is strictly forbidden to be intoxicated or to drink alcohol in public places. The penalty under Article 313 of the UAE Criminal Code is up to 6 months in jail or a fine of up to AED 2,000. Public drinking or being intoxicated is considered to be a criminal offense in the UAE. You can consume alcohol in bars, restaurants, at home or in a hotel room. Since November 8, tourists are free to buy alcohol in any emirate except Sharjah. In Dubai, you need to show a passport, and the store employee himself will draw up a special tourist license. In other emirates, you need to show your passport to certify the permitted age is 21.

The rules of behavior in the UAE for tourists are not simply restrictions, but an attempt to maintain a calm and peaceful atmosphere in the country. Enjoy your vacation and have a nice trip!
