Press Release

The Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments and SC Works Trident today announced the hiring of Jeff Hughes as BCDCOG’s Chief Safety Manager, Megan Ross as a BCDCOG Transit Planner and Kalen Milford, Sr. as SC Works Trident’s Business Service Coordinator.

“As our region continues to grow and thrive, it’s more important than ever that we have the best possible team on board,” said Ron Mitchum, BCDCOG’s executive director. “We’re happy to welcome Jeff, Megan and Kalen, each of whom bring a wealth of expertise to their respective roles, and look forward to continuing to work alongside them to deliver the kind of outstanding service the residents of the tri-county deserve.”

Jeff Hughes, BCDCOG Chief Safety Manager

In his role as Chief Safety Manager, Hughes works alongside BCDCOG leadership and staff to ensure employee safety and resolve issues related to workers’ compensation. Additionally, he works to maintain environmental compliance with OSHA, EPA and other safety-related state regulations.

Hughes brings more than 10 years of experience to the role, having previously worked in the areas of medical, laboratory, construction and shipyard safety.

“I’ve long been passionate about the field of safety and its countless intersections with day-to-day life,” Hughes said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to join the BCDCOG team and look forward to getting started on this important work.”

Megan Ross, Transit Planner

As a Transit Planner for BCDCOG, Ross will assist with route planning, stop development, frequency of service and other scheduling needs for both CARTA and TriCounty Link.

Ross joins the BCDCOG team with nearly a decade of experience working for a number of transit agencies across the country ranging in size and service. Most recently, Ross worked locally as a Fixed Route Operations Manager and supervised the operators of CARTA buses.

“The importance of regional public transit cannot be understated, as countless tri-county residents rely on these services to get from Point A to Point B,” Ross said. “In this new role, I’ll be able to study the big picture as it relates to regional transportation efforts and continue working to improve the quality of life of the residents we serve.”

Kalen Milford, Sr., Business Services Coordinator

As Business Services Coordinator, Milford works to grow business services partnerships and serves as a liaison between SC Works Trident and tri-county employers. Additionally, he assists businesses in the tri-county area by providing the tools and information needed for hiring and retaining employees, including facilitation of On-The-Job Training and Incumbent Worker Training contracts.

“A competitive workforce is critical to maintaining a strong regional economy,” Milford said. “I look forward to putting my 15+ years of organizational and business leadership experience to work collaborating with our local business partners to set them, and their employees, up for success.”
