Inclusive Prom Scheduled for August 13th in Mount Pleasant
The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) strives to provide recreation and social opportunities for community members of all abilities. As part of these efforts, CCPRC invites people with disabilities to dance the night away at a spectacular celebration on Saturday, August 13th.
People with disabilities, their families and their caregivers are invited to attend the prom, held at the R. L. Jones Center in Mount Pleasant at 391 Egypt Road. The event will take place from 6 pm to 8 pm with a DJ playing music that will get the dance floor rocking! This year’s theme is “Fairy Tale,” with attendees encouraged to dress inspired by their favorite fairy tale character.
Tickets are $4 in advance and $5 at the door if still available. Chaperones are free. Advance ticket purchase is recommended and is available by calling 843-795-4386. Chaperones are required for attendees age 15 and under.
Before the prom, attendees are invited to attend “Say Yes to the Dress” on Sunday, August. 7th, where complimentary evening dresses can be picked out to wear to the event. This event will take place at Cypress Hall at North Charleston Wannamaker County Park from 1:30 pm to 4 pm.
The Inclusive Prom and Say Yes to the Dress are made possible through the help of many generous supporters, including the Town of Mount Pleasant Recreation Department, which donates the facility; Charleston Flower Market, which donates corsages for participants; Reinvented Resale, which donates formal dresses and jewelry; and Lowcountry Entertainment, which provides DJ services.
The Inclusive Prom is one of a number of recreational programs offered throughout the year by CCRPC for community members with disabilities. Also coming up this summer is Inclusive Swim Night at Splash Zone Waterpark on James Island on July 16.
