Goss Named Rays Pitcher of the Month for July
Charleston RiverDogs pitcher JJ Goss has been named the Tampa Bay Rays Pitcher of the Month for July, the Major League club announced on Tuesday afternoon. Goss is the third RiverDogs pitcher to receive monthly recognition from the parent club during the 2022 season. Logan Workman was tabbed for the honor in April and Austin Vernon in May.
In his five starts in the month, he compiled a 2-1 record and miniscule 1.73 earned run average. In a total of 26.0 innings, opponents hit just .156 against him with 30 strikeouts and just four walks. Goss has not allowed more than one run in an outing since July 3. Prior to the start of the month, he had not worked longer than 4.0 innings in an appearance during his professional career. In July, he worked 5.0 innings twice and turned in a pair of 6.0 inning outings.
A native of Houston, Goss was selected with the 36th overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft out of Cypress Ranch High School. Due to a shoulder injury and the COVID-19 pandemic, Goss had worked just 27.1 innings prior to this campaign. Last season, he allowed seven runs in 10.1 innings for the FCL Rays.
