Study: South Carolina Ranks No. 9 for Being in the Worst Shape in America
RunReviews.com today released a study on the States in the Best and Worst Shape, and South Carolina ranked as being the 9th most out of shape state in the country.
The website says they created the rankings using the most recent data from the CDC on obesity, diabetes, heart disease, medical checkups, and number of gyms in all 50 states and D.C.
To see how South Carolina compares to the national average in each of the six categories, look below:
- Number of gyms: 10.3 per 100,000 residents, (national average: 12.3)
- Exercised in Last Month: 73.4% (national: 76.9%)
- Obesity Rate: 36.2% (national: 32.1)
- Diabetes Rate: 13.6% (national: 10.8%)
- Heart Disease Rate: 5.2% (national: 4.3%)
- Annual Medical Checkup: 79.1% (national: 74.9%)
The five places in the best shape are D.C., Massachusetts, Colorado, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. The five states in the worst shape are West Virginia, Arkansas, Mississippi, Kentucky, and Alabama.
