Spoleto Festival USA’s “Omar” Featured on “CBS Sunday Morning”

Spoleto Festival USA and Omar, a production the event commissioned, were both featured on yesterday’s episode of CBS Sunday Morning. You can watch the segment below.

During this year’s festival, CBS Sunday Morning was taken behind the scenes at Spoleto for the world premiere of the operaAhead of the work’s next stop in Los Angeles this October, members of the creative team – including  Rhiannon Giddens and Michael Abels – sat down with 13-time Emmy winner Martha Teichner and gave an up-close look at the Sottile Theatre set.

Omar tells the story of Omar Ibn Said, a 19th century Muslim scholar stolen from Senegal and sold into slavery in America, who left behind an autobiography written in Arabic.
