CofC Grad to Launch Charleston Version of “The World’s Most Active Card Game”
Impromptu Cards, a card game co-founded by former Charleston resident Emily Torchiana and her friend, Bryce Wied, will soon release the Charleston Edition of their product. The game, which the pair call “the world’s most active card game,” is expected to be available in the fall.
“After graduating from the College of Charleston, I moved to Los Angeles for my job, and I did not know many people,” Torchiana said. “Being in a huge, new city, I wanted to avoid depending my happiness only on others, so I created a jar filled with Post-it notes listing different LA activities. Each week, I’d pick an activity from the jar and whatever it said, I had to do it alone! Examples included hikes, restaurants, amusement parks, and paragliding. Many of my friends born and raised in LA had not done some of the activities.”
In February 2022, Torchiana and Wied turned this idea into a card game called Impromptu Cards. You play by picking a card and doing whatever activity it says. You can play alone or with someone else. The game was so popular in LA, the pair were interviewed by Ryan Seacrest for his radio show.
The upcoming Charleston Edition will include 40 Holy City specific activities to help people get out of their comfort zone and explore. Whether you just moved here or you’re a native, Torchiana and Wied say the goal of the game is to be spontaneous and have fun.
