Lewis Hatch Chile Roast Returns for its 5th Year on October 9th

Published

on

Pitmaster John Lewis today announced the fifth annual Lewis Hatch Chile Roast will take place on Sunday, October 9th from 1 pm to 5 pm at Rancho Lewis (1503 King St.) and the adjacent Pacific Box & Crate courtyard. This is the first time the event is being held at this venue.

The Lewis Hatch Chile Roast celebrates the acclaimed pitmaster’s favorite ingredient, the hatch green chile. This years event is taking place at Lewis’s latest concept, Rancho Lewis, a border food restaurant that reveres the ingredient and its birthplace.

This year’s celebration will include a tasting tent with some of the area’s best chefs, live music from Solid Country Gold, a “kiddie corral” with children’s activities, and plenty of cold beverages. The Lewis team will truck in over 3,000 lbs. of fresh hatch chiles for the event, roasting them on-site and selling them in 1-lb. or 5-lb. bags.

Chile lovers can pre-order roasted chiles on Lewis Barbecue’s online store and pick up the product at the event or purchase roasted chiles and other products on-site. Exclusive hatch chile merch and products will be available for purchase at the festival.

Restaurants participating include Berkeley’s; Bessinger’s BBQ; Cirsea Craft Ice Cream; Daps Breakfast & Imbibe; Delaney Oyster House; Edmund’s Oast; Girl Nextdough; Jack of Cups Saloon; Lewis Barbecue; Husk; Kwei Fei; Lenoir; Minero Mexican Grill and Cantina; Rancho Lewis; Renzo; Sushi-Wa, Welton’s Fine Foods and Welton’s Tiny Bakeshop; and Zia Green Chile Company. In addition to the tasting tents, partnering neighbor, Edmunds Oast Brewing Co. will create a special chile-infused beer for the roast. Other beverage partners include Advintage; Cathead Vodka and Lunazul.

The event benefits Friends of Joseph Floyd Manor, a non-profit providing advocacy, resources and support to the residents of Joseph Floyd Manor (JFM) through community outreach and awareness, donations, and fundraising. Neighbors to Rancho Lewis, JFM is a public housing facility designated for elderly and disabled citizens on the upper peninsula.

General admission to the event is free and open to the public with a suggested $10 donation to Friends of Joseph Floyd Manor. Chiles can be preordered at https://shop.lewisbarbecue.com.
