Howard Named New Chief Diversity Officer/VP for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at College of Charleston
Dr. Courtney Howard (right) has been named the new Chief Diversity Officer and Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the College of Charleston. She will also oversee the Office of Institutional Diversity (OID).
Howard brings a wealth of institutional knowledge and higher education experience to this very important role. Most recently, she was the associate dean of the College’s School of Education and also served as the interim dean for the School of Education, Health, and Human Performance for a year.
Howard came to the College of Charleston in 2011 to lead the School of Education’s Center for Partnerships to Improve Education, after having served as an interim dean and tenured professor at Claflin University (Orangeburg, S.C.). Her accomplishments as both an administrator and educator, all marked by her commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, will serve her well as our institution’s new Chief Diversity Officer.
Howard will begin transitioning into this new role this month, splitting her time between the School of Education and OID in the short term.
