Press Release

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Southern Sound Radio is a two-hour program scheduled to broadcast every Saturday evening in November from 8-10 p.m. on SC Public Radio. Featuring live concerts recorded at the McCelvey Center in York, SC during the Southern Sound Series, this is the third year that Culture & Heritage Museums has partnered with SC Public Radio. The Southern Sound Radio lineup for 2022 includes recorded live music by Della Mae, Chatham County Line, Ruthie Foster and Steep Canyon Rangers, including previously unaired recordings from the Southern Sound Series.

This year’s program is bolstered with fresh conversations between the featured artists and Zach Lemhouse, historian for Culture & Heritage Museums. In the interviews, band members reflect on the evolving nature of the genre of bluegrass and discuss historical crossovers of musical styles that encompass the roots music of the Carolina Piedmont. Video from the interviews can be viewed on Culture & Heritage Museums’ YouTube Channel.

Southern Sound Radio will air each Saturday from 8-10 p.m. ET:

  • Nov. 5                Della Mae
  • Nov. 12              Chatham County Line
  • Nov. 19              Ruthie Foster
  • Nov. 26              Steep Canyon Rangers
