Press Release

With local impacts from Tropical Storm Nicole expected to continue through midday tomorrow, representatives of the city’s Emergency Management, Police, Fire, Stormwater, Public Services and Transportation departments will remain on emergency operations duty overnight and until the storm has passed.

“Based on the current forecast, this emergency management activation is largely precautionary,” said Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg. “However, we want to make sure we’re prepared to act, and act quickly, if any serious issues should develop over the next 12 to 24 hours.”

Citizens can monitor tide forecasts in real time with the city-developed TIDEeye app. TIDEeye reports tide and weather data from multiple sources, including the National Weather Service, NOAA, city-operated weather stations, Waze user reports, and city reported road closures: https://gis.charleston-sc.gov/tideeye/

Updated road closures are available here: https://gis.charleston-sc.gov/road-closures-regional/

For the most accurate and up-to-date weather forecasts, residents should stay tuned to the National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service Charleston websites, as well as local media and the FEMA app. Additional hurricane preparedness information can be found at www.scemd.org.
