Press Release

Lowcountry Food Bank announced today it received a $10,000 grant from Truist Foundation to conduct three mobile pantry food distributions in the coastal South Carolina area that Lowcountry Food Bank serves.

“Our food-insecure neighbors must cope with inflation, including higher food and gas prices and additional economic impacts that began with the pandemic and still exist,” said Nick Osborne, Lowcountry Food Bank President and CEO. “We are so thankful to Truist Foundation for providing much-needed funds to bring healthy food to our neighbors who face hunger.”

The Truist Foundation grant will provide more than 600 families with approximately 24,000 pounds of nutritious, shelf-stable food and fresh produce. Lowcountry Food Bank mobile pantry food distributions directly serve our neighbors in geographic areas of high need who have low access to food resources. These food distributions provide a variety of food, including shelf-stable items, fresh produce, dairy and meat. Mobile food distributions make food more accessible in underserved communities where neighbors with limited financial resources may not have access to food through traditional grocery stores or food pantries because of a lack of transportation or the need to travel a long distance. Mobile food distributions bring healthy food to our neighbors’ own communities.

“Our support for the Lowcountry Food Bank and their mobile pantries will remove barriers and help ensure that those who need it the most will receive nutritious meals,” said Mike Brenan, South Carolina regional president for Truist. “Our partnership with the Lowcountry Food Bank encapsulates Truist’s purpose to inspire better lives and communities, and we’re proud to support their efforts in addressing food insecurity.”

The food insecurity rate in coastal South Carolina remains high, with almost 145,000 neighbors who face hunger every day, including almost 43,000 children.
