New Upstate public charter school hires school leader

Boiling Springs, S.C. – Adding to its diverse team of educators, Libertas Boiling Springs is pleased to announce Celina Patton is joining the new school as its inaugural school director. 

Opening in August 2023, Libertas Boiling Springs will be the newest public school option in the greater Spartanburg area. The school will serve grades K-6 with a capacity of approximately 100 students per grade. Libertas Boiling Springs will provide a high quality tuition-free public school option to all students.

Celina Patton is a well-respected former teacher and administrator within the South Carolina public school system, most recently serving as the Chief of Student Services at the Charter Institute at Erskine. With almost 15-years of experience in traditional public and public charter schools, including experience as a special education teacher in Spartanburg School District 3, Mrs. Patton will be joining the Libertas Boiling Springs and will focus on building a strong foundation for the new school. Mrs. Patton is excited about the opportunity to make an impact in the community in which she calls home.

Mrs. Patton recently stated, “From my first day in the classroom as a special education teacher, I knew this was the exact profession for me. I love everything about education.

I loved working with the children and alongside teacher colleagues who worked to make a difference. I loved being in the classroom and found that my students have always been a source of joy and inspiration. It is this inspiration that leaves me with a wonderful sense of hope in the future of our great nation. I look forward to serving as the founding school director of Libertas Boiling Springs.”

The Libertas Boiling Springs Board Chair, Keith Coones, shared his enthusiasm in the hire of Mrs. Patton. “Celina Patton has shown her creativity and leadership skills throughout her career in K-12 education. Her compassion as a special education teacher speaks for itself and her leadership skills at the district level was second to none. I have full confidence Mrs. Patton will build a strong foundation for our new school for many years to come.”
