It was another newsworthy year in Charleston (and another successful year for Holy City Sinner). As we welcome in 2023, let’s take a look at the blog’s most viewed stories from 2022.

  1. South Carolina Shelters Declare a State of Emergency
    • Charlestonians love their pets, so it comes as no surprise that residents took the Charleston Animal Society’s state of emergency very seriously. State shelters were swamped with animals that needed homes and people were ready to help.
  2. Gov. Henry McMaster Suspends Allendale Town Councilman Earl Morell After Indictment
    • The suspension of Allendale Town Councilman Earl Morell in October made waves in the state. Morell was indicted on charges of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the second degree and was promptly suspended by Governor Henry McMaster.
  3. CNBC: South Carolina is America’s 4th Worst Place to Live
  4. Darius Rucker Announces Two-Day Music Festival in North Charleston
    • Residents and tourists alike were excited to learn that country musician, lead singer of Hootie & the Blowfish, Charleston native, and three-time Grammy winner Darius Rucker was planning a two-day music festival in North Charleston.
  5. “Southern Charm” Star Leva Bonaparte Began Filming Spin-Off Show This Week at Republic Garden & Lounge
    • Southern Charm-related news always racks up the views and this year was no different. People were clamoring for information after cast member Leva Bonaparte began filming a spin-off television series in May at Republic Garden & Lounge, one of the businesses she and her husband, Lamar, own. The new series, which ended up being called Southern Hospitality, debuted on Bravo in November.
  6. RITUAL Rooftop Restaurant & Lounge Coming to Downtown Charleston on September 1st
    • Residents were excited to learn about a new rooftop restaurant and lounge that was opening downtown. RITUAL Rooftop Restaurant & Lounge, a Tulum-inspired concept, officially opened on the 3rd floor of 145 Calhoun Street on September 1st.
  7. The Charleston Place Announces 2022 Holiday Programming
    • After a couple years of canceled and postponed events, people were ready to get back to normal, so it was no surprise that people were devouring posts about holiday events and celebrations. The Charleston Place’s holiday programming for the 2022 season was a hit and included festive décor and an array of activities for all ages.
  8. Laura Linney and Woody Harrelson to Star in Movie Filming in Charleston, Production Currently Seeking Extras
    • The Holy City loves a good celebrity sighting and this announcement had Charleston buzzing. Academy Award nominees Laura Linney and Woody Harrelson and rising actress Nico Parker (Dumbo), will star in Suncoast, a movie that filmed in the Charleston area from September 21st through November 1st.
  9. Southern Living Reveals the South’s Top 50 Barbecue Joints of 2022
    • Charlestonians are fiercely loyal to local businesses and they are happy when they earn recognition in national media. In September, Southern Living announced this year’s list of the Top 50 Barbecue Joints in the South and Charleston was well represented.
  10. Pickleball Club and Restaurant Coming to Mt. Pleasant
    • Crush Yard, a pickleball club and restaurant, is planning to open in Mount Pleasant next year and people were excited and curious to learn more. Located off Highway 17 at 3365 S. Morgans Point Road, the business will combine the sport of pickleball with a laid back eatery.
